The Malabar Pepper Company

The World's Finest

About our pepper

Harvesting and sun drying takes place during the dry and sunny months of January through March.  Our pepper is packaged soon after, and at source, ensuring that the pepper is not contaminated during storage and transfer under the normally separated chain of production and processing.

The Malabar Pepper Company grows its pepper exclusively in Tellicherry Taluka or county, known through history as the source of the best black pepper.  A combination of soils, terrain, temperature, sun angle and climatic humidity, with traditional growing and harvesting methods perfected over the centuries, produces the finest pepper from superior pepper strains.

Pepper, once grown exclusively in India's Malabar region, is today commercially farmed extensively in South-east Asia and South America.  Arbitrage is now common, with lower quality pepper from these destinations imported to Cochin, the Malabar coast's major port, and unscrupulously mixed in with higher quality local produce.  Origin of processed pepper with most exporters is now difficult to establish, as open market stocks are mixed.  The Malabar Pepper Company guarantees its Tellicherry pepper's origination in the region, as it maintains strict origin controls.
